| Giovanni,
who was born in Sardinia, studied traditional Italian cuisine at one
of Italy’s top culinary colleges and then worked in some of Tuscany’s
most exclusive restaurants before arriving in York in 1978. He chefed
in a variety of York hotels and restaurants before opening Delrio’s
Restaurant in July 1990.
Delrio’s Restaurant offers an extensive blend of classic and
popular Italian and Mediterranean-style dishes within a very characteristic
and intimate atmosphere. Unique to York, the venue boasts a very original
and distinctive cellar setting with a labyrinth of secluded tables for
private dining, as well as larger areas for families and groups, and
a covered patio area.
Giovanni puts the popularity of his cuisine down to the use traditional
methods of cooking and the use of both locally sourced and fresh produce.
His menu boasts mouth-watering seafood, poultry and meat dishes as well
as a wide-ranging variety of delicious pasta and rice dishes and an
excellent choice of vegetarian options. Not forgetting the Pizzeria,
boasting first-rate authentic pizzas cooked to the traditional Italian
home-made style!
